((Continued from: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] ))

Kale strode rather casually out of the castle. She was pleased she had encountered no one after immediately leaving the dungeons, she did not want to be questioned again. A delicate and bloodied hand rose and brushed back some wisps of her feathery hair from her eye. It was matted with the sticky red liquid and continued to be a bother. It hardly mattered at that moment of course and it was far from something she was unaccustomed to. In fact, she acted entirely like she was unaware of her state: covered in blood splatter, shirt soaked and white feathers, pink. The entire front of her, covered in red as it dripped down her frame, and she paid it no mind.

Feeling the grass of the front lawn under her talons, large wings flapped out, feathers silently slashing through the air as she leaped into the sky. She flew fast over the forest, gaze intent on the mountains. Her shadow was cast down on the ground below as she glided over the stables. She had to check on what she had hidden, her plans were ruined without it. This man, this intruder that had come to the island...if he had found it...had moved it...Kale shook her head. No, it had to be there. It was too important, too precious.

She was uncaring about the small red droplets that were ripped from her by the wind. They descended heavily towards the ground, where the plopped solidly on anything beneath the harpy's taken path...

Post  Larita Marten Fri Nov 04, 2011 10:59 am

Larita was wearing her skin-tight black riding pants with a pair of tall matching riding boots that reached the top of her calf. A white shirt with a ruffled collar was just visible underneath a form-fitting navy-blue jacket. Her hair was pulled back into a neat, low bun contained within a small hairnet barrette. A short crop was tucked under her arm as she walked, posture straight with purpose.

There was a chestnut belgian in the stables that she had grown particularly attached to since her arrival at the academy. He wasn't quite as fast, well-bred or trained as her palomino thoroughbred back at home, but since she wasn't allowed to bring her own horse with her, she had to make due. Besides, there was something about the shaggy belgian, who she was now in the habit of calling Dolce, that she liked. Of course, she wouldn't be able to admit that to anyone else.

She was planning to take him out for a nice ride today, perhaps down the dirt road. But just as she was reaching the stables, she felt a large, wet drop hit her square in the forehead. Assuming immediately that it was bird poo, the expression on her face changed from determined to disgusted. She stopped walking and reached up with a gloved hand to touch the wet spot. She pulled her hand down, and looked at her fingertips. It was hard to see the red against the black leather and she rubbed her fingers together, trying to see just what it was. Pulling off her glove, she reached up again, and this time the blood was obvious against her skin. She shrieked.

"It's blood!" she screamed to no one in particular, then looked up into the sky in time to see the shadow of the harpy professor fly away.

The weather was nice. It was warm from the bright sun if you were standing in it, but the sea breeze brought on a chill.

Kale's shadow streaked across the land. Underneath, a trail of blood drips lead north towards the mountains. They were easily spotted if one was observant, smelling strongly of iron, metallic, and contrasting against the green grass and leaves where they had fallen.

Where ever this trail lead, it was obviously related to the harpy and blood she had spilled.

Post  Solasta Sat Nov 05, 2011 10:31 am

Fishing for rabbits. That was the nice, friendly way of calling it, anyway. Treading across the grassy plains with an unusually optimistic leap in her stride, her eyes would occasionally sweep the landscape, noticing the stables and the gardens in the near distance. In her hand she grasped an assortment of strings with hooks attached, presumably raided from the castle's supply of fishing rods, with lettuce pierced to each one as a sort of bait.

Her wry lips cracked into an anticipating grin, scanning around for someplace suitable. They weren't always easy to notice, but there was the burrow that lay scattered about here and there. She dipped the end of the hook into the burrow, carefully disguising it with mud so that only the tempting vegetable was visible. It wasn't guaranteed, but if she waited long enough, a rabbit would eventually arrive.

Of course, she realised that dinner would be so much easier if she just sat patiently in the dining hall to be served with a fresh slab of quality meat. But it wasn't satisfying to eat what someone else had prepared - there was something rewarding about hunting her own dinner, not to mention rabbit typically wasn't on their menus.

A quick glance around saw a figure in the distance. And, just by chance, it turned out to be that one girl she had come to know and loathe, and unlucky enough to share the same space with. She hadn't seemed to notice Solasta, so that was at least something she could feel relief in. Her gaze returned to the waiting hook for a rabbit to appear. She held on tightly to the string.

And - yes, she could see it - a small, fuzzy nose with two equally innocent eyes peeping out, inspecting the strange offering before it. It cluelessly tilted its head, unaware of the grisly demise that would soon await it. She grinned, mentally urging it forwards, to take the bait. It leaned in closer, inspecting it with a small sniff.

As fate would have it, just at that precise moment, a dark shadow would whip across the ground. The rabbit looked alarm, pulling its head back, as if it seemed to realise something was amiss. Red splattered lightly down between them, and the rabbit turned tail, heading back into the safety of its burrow. Solasta stared dumfoundedly.

Something - or someone, had dared to interrupt her kill. And she wasn't about to let this slip easily, oh no. She looked down at the droplets of red on the grass, reaching a finger to smear some of it off. She tasted it. Blood. Her gaze slid upwards to peer at the trail the thing had left behind. Foolish thing! The clues left behind were so painfully obvious.

Standing up, she didn't bother recollecting the hook that she'd left. Her initial direction was towards the stables where Larita was - she would have to pass it to follow the trail anyway. "Hey!" she called, looking less than pleased. "Yo' got any idea what dat thing was?" She stared disapprovingly as she awaited an answer. "'Cuz I'm goink to tear it to shreds."

Post  Larita Marten Sun Nov 06, 2011 10:09 am

Larita turned towards the all-to recognizable voice of her roommate. Initially her face still held the impression of the shock that she felt due to the blood that was now smudged across her forehead. The splatter had hit her directly on the hairline. But on registering Solasta's squatting presence, Larita's nose wrinkled and her upper lip curled in a rather unattractive sneer.

Best to just answer the question and move on. "It was that short, grumpy science professor, Kale," she said, motioning with one arm in the direction that the harpy had flown. It was then that she noticed the bloody path that was left behind. "She's gotten blood everywhere!" Larita exclaimed, truly upset. The stables were the one place that she felt almost at home, and even though it wasn't fancy, it was always clean. But not anymore. "Disgusting!" she said, moving to cross her arms and then remembering that she had blood on her hand. She let her arms hang awkwardly at her sides instead.

She turned her attention back to Solasta. "What are you doing sneaking over there anyway? Wait, are you following me?" As the thought came into Larita's head, she suddenly believed it to be true. Solasta was stalking her! Why else would she be sneaking through the grass like that? Her eyes narrowed accusingly.

Post  Leon Barner Sun Nov 06, 2011 2:29 pm

Leon lay, hands behind his head, across a flat surface of the mountains. His wings stretched out to either side and his eyes were closed, absorbing the heat of the sun as it beat down on him. He was thinking about the spell he'd just learned. He still couldn't perform it without saying it aloud, and it was still a lot smaller than he liked, but he was now able to successfully use it in any given situation. His mind wandered to some of the different spells he'd seen and he wondered which he should try to learn next. Distracted, He had almost fallen asleep.

Then a figure cut across the sky, blocking the sun just for a second. He felt two fat drops of rain land on him. One on his stomach and the other on his left wing. His eyes slid open, suddenly grateful that he'd chosen to wear his wind breaker that would protect him from the rain. However there wasn't a cloud in the sky and a look of confusion crossed Leon's face. He sat up a bit looking down to his stomach where he thought he'd felt the rain. A shiny scarlet drop, unabsorbed by his water-resistant wind breaker slid down his stomach with the help of gravity.

Leon wiped the blood of his jacket, highly disappointed that it had left a stain. And he had actually been trying not to get blood on his clothes today. Looking around for the source of the blood he saw that it had left a trail across the flat of the mountain in either direction. He stood now wondering which way he should follow the trail of blood.

Shae had been stalking through the forest, simply passing the time when he had decided to explore the mountains better. Not for any real reason more than because he had yet to do so.
And he was curious, of course, so he had began heading in that general direction already when he had felt a wet droplet on his shoulder, by chance hitting the skin exposed by the wider neck of his oversized jacket.
He wasn't going to give it a second glance, but rain, of course, wasn't red was it?

He looked up just in time to see a dark shape fly overhead, giving hima pretty clear idea on what or more to the point who was leaving behind this trail of "red rain."
Now even more curious, he forgot the mountain- although that was where he was following his new lead anyway- and started after his new point of focus.

The trail of blood was scattered, and the drops unevenly placed. The ones closer to the castle were turning a darker shade faster, drying in the cool air and the sunlight. The ones towards the mountains were fresher, though still drying quickly. They lead to the base of the moutain and up, crossing over.

Kale? Solasta inclined her head in the direction of where she had flown, but the harpy was long gone. Admittedly, she did smirk at Larita's description of her being short - she could find truth in that. A small snort escaped her nostrils as she freaked out at the gore. This was merely raindrops compared to what she'd encountered. The look the junkai was currently giving her was filled with implications of 'Are you kidding me?'

It was her following claim that caused a rather offended frown to form on her face. "Followink you?!" she echoed. "Why di heck would I do dat? I 'ave no interest in anyt'ink you're doing, I'm just followink di bird and yo' happened to be in the way." She glared at her evenly, before twisting around sharply away from her, towards the bloodied route. "I don't care if yo' want to come wi' meh..." She glanced incredulously at the stables. "...Or stay here wi' di animals." She rolled her shoulders into a shrug as if neither option mattered, before beginning to walk away and down the path.

Post  Larita Marten Wed Nov 09, 2011 9:10 am

Larita shifted uncomfortably. She was curious enough to see where the harpy had gone, and why she was dripping blood everywhere, but she didn't want to go alone, as Solasta seemed so willing to do, which she guessed meant that the other girl wasn't, in fact, following her. "Wait a sec!" Larita shouted. "I have to get my horse!"

She sprinted into the stables and quickly brushed, saddled and bridled the shaggy belgian while he was still in his stall, not bothering with the cross-ties. He was well-behaved enough anyway, as large horses so often were. Sticking her foot into the stirrup, she swung her leg up and over the horse's side and sat comfortably in the English saddle. Squeezing her calves, Larita urged the horse forward out the entrance of the barn and into the field surrounding it.

On her horse, she would be much faster than on her own feet. Walking long distances was not something that Larita enjoyed or ever wanted to do again. Dolce trotted forward easily with Larita on his back. He was a good 17 hands tall, and together, they stood at about 8 feet tall.

There were other horses in the stables that Solasta could take if she wanted. Larita turned her head as she urged her own horse forward loosely following the scattered trail of blood, unsure of whether the purple girl had waited for her or not.

At the command to wait, Solasta stopped, out of sheer curiousity at what she wanted her attention for. A horse? What would she be needing a horse for? She waited impatiently with a hand resting on her hips, expecting nothing but a complete failure to emerge from the stables.

What she saw wasn't what she was hoping - the girl seemed to be controlling the beast effectively. But it wasn't that what ticked at her. Her room-mate, from where she was sitting, was at a higher position than her. The junkai certainly had no intention of looking up at her, she could guarantee that. With a jealous glare, she immediately bolted for the stables, her long legs striding easily over the ground.

Her eyes settled on the biggest horse in sight - a large, grey mare. She reached forward to grappled the back of its neck, where it immediately tried to twist away - obviously not keen on the large, purple stranger. Although the horse would try to pull away, Solasta eventually managed to lift a leg on top of the horse, before hoisting herself up. The horse wouldn't allow her to get comfortable before it started to neigh in protest, raising on its hind legs in an attempt to shake her off. "Stand stilll!" she hissed in the horse's ear as she coiled both of her arms around its neck to hold on.

As animals tend to do, it disregarded her command and began to uncontrollably burst forwards outside the stables, with Solasta clinging on desperately. The mare was strong and fast, and the junkai found her grasp slippng as the horse continued to try and shake her off. She'd long moved from sitting on its back to slipping around its side, clinging on lopsidedly. Eventually, she slipped off, landing less than gracefully into the mud. Startled, the house began to speed off in the opposite direction.

"..." Standing up, she stared in disbelief at what had just occured. "Fine den! Maybe I don't need you!" she yelled, despite the fact it was long gone. Grumpy, she stormed back towards Larita would be standing, seemingly jealous that the girl had managed to claim victory in horse taming where she could not. She looked up bitterly at her, before reaching a hand out to place on the horse, her eyes briefly darting to the horse's back in an implying manner. "...May I." The request to join her was spoken like a grumpy statement.

Post  Larita Marten Sat Nov 12, 2011 10:55 am

Larita didn't try to suppress the laughter as her roommate so ungracefully slid off the back of the grey mare. It was more than she could have hoped for. Once her laughter subsided, a superior smirk settled on Larita's face. Normally, she would most definitely refuse to let the other girl share her horse, but the display had put her in a rather good mood, and she was eager to show off her own equestrian talents. Besides, the horse was sturdy enough to hold them both.

"Fine," Larita said. "Just try not to break my horse." Her voice was pleasant, but teasing. The horse stomped one foot out of boredom, as if he was anxious for the exercise.

The trail of blood continued through a small patch of forest, though it wasn't clear how far it went beyond that from this perspective. Anyway, it would add some excitement to an otherwise uneventful day. The thought of what they would do when they actually caught up to the harpy hadn't yet entered the simple girl's mind.

Solasta wanted nothing more than to reach an arm up and personally wipe that smirk straight off her face. In fact, she would've done it right there and then if it weren't for the fact that she was the only one currently able to control this unruly mode of transport. She didn't feel like walking today.

"I'll break yo' face if yo' don't shuddap..." she hissed under her breath, not intending her room-mate to hear. She hoisted herself up onto the horse - her height giving her slightly more ease with this - reluctantly seating herself behind Larita. She nudged her shoulder harshly. "Tell it to go den," she sneered, mocking her pompous tone. "You're de expert."

Solasta had mumbled something, but Larita hadn't understood nor did she wish too. Her demeanor remained superior as the other girl found her seat on the back of the horse. Larita opened her mouth to speak, but was interrupted by the sudden jolt to her shoulder. "Watch it!" she said, looking back over her shoulder and rubbing it with the fingers of the opposite hand. Her focus shifted forward, eyes narrowing as she looked at the path ahead.

Taking the reins in both hands, a small smirk settled on her face. "Better hold on, then," she said, and gave the chestnut horse a rough kick in the sides. "Ya!" she shouted simultaneously. Responsive to the instruction, the horse bolted forward aiming down the blood-strew path. It was a sudden movement, but there was no violent jerking or bucking that would seriously injure a rider.

They continued forward, the horse's stride quickly becoming smooth and languid. It wasn't long before they had reached the edge of the trees. Larita pulled back on the reins, slowing Dolce to a walk as she looked back over her shoulder. "Still there, roomie?"

The junkai responded to the warning with a sneer. And, when told to hold on to something, she was more than ready not to, just to spite her. Of course, she couldn't uphold this unsaid vow for long, and she was forced to cling onto her room-mate's sides when the horse made a sudden start forward, just to avoid falling off.

And through it all, she would be wary, although most of it derived of her new-found grudge against horses. She hadn't trusted them much before, but she sure as hell wasn't about to trust one now. She hated having to rely on Larita, but there didn't seem to be another way around it.

She shot her a cold glare at the question. "Of course I am!" she huffishly retorted, as if the very suggestion off her not being there was appalling. Her eyes skimmed the forests's edge until she saw a dark-haired figure in the distance, whom she vaguely recognised as Shae.

"HEEEEEY!" she yelled, almost certain that her loud, obnoxious voice would be heard. "ARE YO' COMINK WI UUUS?"

The girl smirked to herself as the horse continued forward. The hands on her sides were proof enough that she was in control of the situation, which was something that she rarely felt with her roommate.

When Solasta shouted, Larita leaned forward on impulse, the loud voice echoing in her ear drums. "Watch it!" she shouted back, balancing herself on the horse's thick neck. She shook her head and pressed on her ear with the palm of her hand as if this would somehow help any damage that had been done. She listened to the steady pop each time she pulled her hand away. Once she was satisfied that she had not in fact lost her hearing, she turned her focus forward towards whatever Solasta had been shouting at.

She saw Shae's figure, complete with his ridiculously jagged hairstyle, and grimaced. He was probably one of the only people that she could possibly consider "friend" yet he often pestered her enough that she always found herself on the edge of enjoying his company. Still, adding him to their little adventure party would be better than taking the journey alone with Solasta. She pulled on the horse's right rein, aiming them in Shae's direction. She wouldn't bother trying to talk to him until they got closer.

Shae looked around as his name was called, slightly surprised- and even more surprised to see Larita -that was pretty normal- and Solasta -and there was the surprise- on a horse.
Sol was... on a horse..
well that was.. something he didn't see every day that's for sure.

Seeing as they were going in the same direction he was though he smiled and strolled towards them amiably.
"Depends where you guys are headed I suppose.. I myself was following this lovely trail of red splatters, which I hazard a guess to be blood..." he gestured along the path lazily, stretching slightly.

"Not sure there's room on that horse for me though" he added, eying the beast as it supported both just Larita, but the massive purple monster as well. "It seems rather er.... full.."

Oh, how dreadfully humiliating! Forced to sit while her annoying room-mate gets to lead the way. Her slightly pained reaction from her shouting was only slightly satisfactory, but the juddering movements of the horse would on;y tie her stomach into knots. If this wasn't suffering, she didn't know what was.

She scowled down at Shae as he neared. "No kiddink," she snorted. "We're goink to see where dis trail leads." Her tail would mindlessly flick behind her, before it would reach out and aim to lightly whap the back of the boy's head.

"Looks like we're goink to have to leave yo' behind. Such a shame," she sighed as if the matter was an ordeal, before breaking back out into a satirical smirk. "If yo' start runnink, yo' might be able to catch up. If yo' lucky."

She didn't feel like it was necessary to answer Shae's question when Solasta already had, so she just sat on the horse, the reins held loosely in her hands while Dolce took advantage of the momentary pause and reached his neck down to eat some fallen leaves off the ground.

He couldn't help but give a small smirk at Laritas remark, but didn't comment on it, so they were going in the same direction he was? If only the horse wasn't already carrying so much...
But he was certain Larita could be convinced at least to slow down to his walking pace.. or well.. jogging pace, if Sol couldn't be bothered waiting- which he didn't doubt one bit.

"Well.. yes you could leave me behind, I'm sure you two are having the best of times together" he said the word 'together' as though it could have meant 'all alone together with no one else around' all packed into one word. "If thats the case, I suppose I'll see you in a while... I don't mind walking alone~"
That was true, he didn't mind walking alone, in fact that had been what he had been doing for some time that day already- but being around other people, espeically two such easy to teaste people, was always entertaining to say the least.

He shrugged with a sly smile, examinging his hand casually. "I understand.. a single kiss can change the whole way you look at someone..." he let his eyes flick over to the two girls faces with a slightly raised brow, smile growing a tad wider at the implications he was making.

At Larita's words, she couldn't help but crack into a hoot of laughter - her voice harsh, grating and unpleasant, accompanied by flying drops of spit. However, this particular laugh seemed somewhat void of humour or merriment, as noted by the fact that it quickly silenced only a few seconds later. An upwards slap, not a particularly harsh one, was aimed at the back of her partner's head, and a low growl escaped her throat. "Nevuh compare me to a horse again," she hissed under her breath.

Her fiery gaze quickly settled on Shae. It diverted a disgusted look towards Larita, before returning to the boy. "Oh, ai, was it dat obvious?!" she huffed, crossing her arms. "We're havink such a wonderful fekkink time. De birds are singink wi' 'armony an' de flowers are bloomink an'.." She threw her arms defeatedly into the air.

"To heck wi' dat!" She pointed an accusative finger at Shae. "Yo'! Just shu'up! I know yo'd prolleh want a kiss or samt'ink..!" Her red eyes narrowed disdainfully and she looked away.

The brief chuckle at her own joke was suddenly interrupted by a smack on the base of her skull. Larita leaned forward, away from the impact, and her hand went up to the back of her head. "Ow!" she whined, her face pulled into a hurt grimace. "What the hell, Solasta!" She rubbed the spot where she had been hit as if it would somehow help. She pulled her fingers away to look at them and see if there was blood, which there wasn't. She frowned, rubbing the spot again.

Her eyes narrowed on Shae as he spoke. Red blush rose to her cheeks as he brought up that horrible van ride. She felt defensive. "Hey, she's the one stalking me. But I guess you can't blame her, right?" She urged the horse forward at a slow, walking pace. "Hey, maybe you guys should switch. Sol's got longer legs anyways."

Still rubbing her head lightly, Larita scanned the ground ahead. The blood trail was still there, running uphill through the forest and towards the mountains. It suddenly occurred to Larita that what they were doing might not be the safest possible adventure. "Why do you think that harpy's so bloody anyways?" Her eyes widened and her voice fell to a whisper. "Do you think she killed someone?"

He grinned- too easy... far too easy.
This was child's play.

He shrugged as though nonchalant.
"Well, I wouldn't want to deprive Sol of a chance to look oh so regal sitting on that horse... at least if I walk I'll be getting a good laugh at the same time, right?" he was deliberately pushing all the buttons, Larita already wanted them to switch.. now he just had to convince Sol, right? "As for kisses.. depends, are you offering?" There was no mistaking the amused light in his voice..

At the question of blood however he couldn't help but slip back from a grin to a smirk. "What, scaaared, are we princess?" his tone was slightly teasing as he offered her a small wink. "Don't worry, I'll protect you~"

The slap wasn't as satisfying as she wanted it to be. Overdoing her abuse did sort of take away the appeal of it. But a superior smirk remained - whether or not Larita could maneuver a horse was irrelevant in the fact that Solasta could own her any day of the week.

However, her expression turned offended with a loud 'huff!' at Larita's willingness to swap. At first, she thought Shae was siding with her, until the point when she actually listened to his words. She swivelled an annoyed glance onto him. Finally, she threw her arms into the air in defeat, before sliding her leg over and hopping off the horse. "Dat's it! I canneh be assed dealink wi' yo' crap!" An accusatory glance was whipped at Larita. "Yo' can have yo' pretteh boy cradling yo' ass behind you - de smell was makink me sick anyweh!" She reached an arm, aiming to shove Shae towards the horse roughly.

"I'm not de one offerink, idiot," she said, referring to the kiss. "Can't be forgettink yo' cheetah boy so shortleh. He'd be upset, aai. 'Eartbroken." Her expression was only mockingly sympathetic. "Actualleh, he's probably t'inking of you now. Wantink to pull yo' into a slobberink filtheh make-out on de couch." Her grin twisted into a cruel smirk. The sitting room lock-in was months ago, but she remembered it as clear as day.

Her attention was brought to the bloodstained path before them, and she let out something of a 'pffft'. "Killed samt'ink! Ai! Probableh!" she snorted as if the matter was entirely obvius, and not worth taking seriously. "C'maan... we're not gettink anyt'ing done standink 'ere chatting. You two can 'ave yo' picnic - I'm seeink what dis is all about!" And she proceeded to begin to storm off in the direction of the trail.

Larita's smile could be described as nothing else but smug as Solasta slid off the horse. Dolce shifted, stomping his feet lightly as the weight shifted off his back. Larita held the reins loosely in her hand as she balanced herself easily while Solasta and Shae exchanged banter.

"Scared?" she said, responding to Shae's challenging remark. Her face revealed a brief moment of hesitation before she masked it with a sarcastic, pursed lip smirk. "Well if you're the one protecting me I think I have good reason to be, don't you think?"

Even before she finished speaking, her head turned, eyes watching Solasta as the beast stormed off. Larita's resolve faltered. There was a reason that there was blood on the ground, and she doubted that it could mean anything good. Still, she was curious, and the majority of her mind told her that there couldn't possibly be that much danger. Nothing bad ever happened to her, just other people.

Once she was decided, she turned her attention back to Shae. "Well if you're getting on, hurry up or we'll lose her." It was a strange statement, the fact that Larita didn't want to lose contact with Solasta, but if they were going into danger, she at least wanted the much larger, more conspicuous girl to be there as a distraction if nothing else. A saying came to the girl's mind, and though it had been in relation to to bears when she heard it, it still fit the current situation: You only have to run faster than the person behind you. And Larita had a horse.
