Horrible Choice

[Chimney, 20]

Chimney slithered her way down a new wing of the castle. She wanted to know more so she could help people find the places they had to go. Maybe this hall wasn't a good choice, I smelled funny compared to others. Chirping away to herself she found a door she decided was worth entering. It was such a pretty door! It really wasn't much different than others but to Chimney it was all beautiful. If someone was inside they could hear her little attempts to scratch through the door.

Her little paws were soon tired though so she went across the hall and tried to take a nap. In her dream Draiman and her were playing tag in a mall and she was losing, until she got in the long fountain and used her tail to slip about. It was really fun! Her little light mongoose snores would be cute to any little girl not scared of her chimera animal form. Little did Chimney know though, she had been scratching at Dean Rendaz's door.

From the other side of the metallic door, there could be heard the whoosh of flames, and the occasional groaning and squeaking of metals - a new project deep in progress. Reddish eyes were focused with concentration as he used the welder, heating the metal plate to extreme temperatures, before simply using his bare hands to twist them into shape. Stupid humans and their fragile skin - they'd need all this needless protection merely to not frazzle their hands off. This method was just that many times more convenient.

Around then, he heard a strange scratching noise on the door. While he would've happily disregarded it, he certainly didn't trust the residents of his academy enough not to immediately become suspicious. They could've been trying to figure out how to break in. Putting the half finished project to one side - promising to return in due time - he swung the door open, craning his rather ash-covered head outside to peer around. The only notable sight was some mutant rat curled up across the corridor. Was this a prank? Was it dead? Or perhaps some irresponsible student was leaving their pets unattended. He gave a groan, returning inside to grab a net (formerly used for butterflies), and returning to the snoozing animal. This thing was going to the trash. It would teach the owner a lesson about not leaving pets to their own devices.

Before scooping up the clueless beast though, he reached to prod it in the shoulder to wake it. Well, there was always the off chance it was one of those talking animal students, but he doubted it.

In her nice little dream she hadn't been aware of the Lizard man coming out from behind the metal door that she had been scratching at. She woke though at it's prod at her and her eyes shot open and her ears twitched towards it. She made little chirping noises, happy to meet them. Oh such an interesting creature! Maybe they would have snacks!

Chimney had not been expecting the net. "hissssssssss" Chimney instantly went into a bit of a panic. She couldn't change in front of this creature. Usually she wouldn't care, but as she got older, she had felt more uncomfortable changing in front of others. Her fangs and paws thrashed at the net. A heavy snake tail was beating against it as well in an attempt to escape. Why was the Lizard man doing this? She was friendly!

If only Draiman could help her! She couldn't call out for him though. He had told her he had to leave soon anyway and she had to be careful for him. Gosh he'd be upset if he found out she was in a net! She tried to calm down the animal instinct and reach a paw to swing open her pack with her human clothes in it. Maybe if the creature saw she was not a crazy animal he wouldn't put her in a cage. She hated cages....

Hissing? Probably not a student then. Still, he eyed the thing curiously as it writhed around. Quite the odd looking animal, probably stitched together by some mad scientist. Well, he'd probably not trash it right away. The scientist in him really wanted to take a closer look at the curious thing.

It was hard to maintain a good grip on the net with all the struggling, but somehow, he managed. But it had stopped to open... some sort of pack? His interest lasted no more than a few seconds before he lifted the net off the ground with the creature (hopefully) still within. If successful, he would raise it towards his soot-covered face to take a closer look with leering, reddish eyes. With his free hand, he would try to stick in a finger between the small square gaps of the next, prodding the creature experimentally with the blackened claw.

"The heck are you meant to be?" he grunted with a disapproving sneer - expecting no verbal answer from the animal.

Chimney manege to pullout her shirt, but it didn't seem to help. Chimney wanted to panic again as she was lifted into the air. She took deep breaths as she was in front of his face, and little chirps were nervously sounding. Draiman had warned her people would try and capture her, but she wasn't sure why thy would be here. Was the orange thing a scientist from the lab?

When he asked a question she made a loud chirp. She was a Chimera! A student! How would he know unless she switch back though? he was dirty looking and it added to chimneys fear. The scary thing wasn't being very nice. Poking wasn't nice either, and he had a pointy thing! She wiggled again making annoyed hisses.

Why did it have a shirt? Stealing its owners belongings? The possibility of it being a student had left his mind. He was pretty sure it would've turned back by now, protesting and explaining. Or at least speak to him. But right now it seemed pretty feral to him.

Shrugging, he carried the the thing back into his room, closing the door behind him, clearing some space on his cluttered desk by simply brushing it onto the floor. He set the net atop the table, but twisted the net in a way that it would still be difficult to escape even when it was set down.

He stared at it thoughtfully for a moment, twirling smoke around with his fingers. Bending down, he rested both of his elbows against the desk, using one hand to support his chin. "Do you understand English," he dully asked, feeling a bit lame for talking to an animal. But still - weird things happened in the academy. He wouldn't put it past it.

Laying still in the net she closed her eyes afraid of what was in the room. Evil meany devices? She couldn't bare to think of what the orange thing was going to do to her. She had learnt that past experience helps, but may not be useful. Things are always changing. When she was placed on a flat surface her eyes opened and she took in the room carefully.

English, that must be what she spoke, because she knew what he was saying. Chimney nodded her head and pulled the shirt close to her by getting it in her mussel. She tried getting it over her head as quickly as she could in case she had to change. A chirp sounded as she was able to get it over. Her gaze looked back at the Orange thing and she let a little chirp go his way.

As the creature nodded at the question, an almost malicious grin spread across his face. A grin that lasted just about a few seconds. Well, that made it a dozen times more easier to communicate. Rendaz figured that the odd creature might come into more use than he bargained for. Twisting away from her, he started to search in one of the nearby drawers, filled to the brim with things he'd never thought he'd use.


"Perfect," he muttered. "You do know how much I've needed a classroom assistant? Or say... an experimental rat?" Then he pulled out a collar. And a leash attached.

He ignored the stupid chirps it was making, but as it tried to fumble with some sort of clothing, he sighed. Where did it even get them? The net was twisted again - but this time, it provided an opening. However, he acted quickly not to give the creature much time to escape. He immediately thrust a claw in to hold it down - before using his other one, collar in tow, to try attach it to the creatures neck. Hopefully, it wouldn't be able to squirm free.

What was going to happen. What could possibly be in the other direction?! ...A collar. If there was one thing Chimney actually hated. It was collars. All those times she had trouble turning into her human form, the scientists strapped on a collar and walked her like some kind of domesticated animal. it was horrifying! Now this Orange this was using one? Was there an alliance there? She didn't like it one bit. When he went to open the net she tried to get out using her strong tail. He had a firm grip though.

Even worse, an experiment? There was definitely something going on to get her for sure! Her panic was coming back and she didn't know what to do. The collar was on her neck now. Maybe it would break if she changed? But she didn't have her skirt on yet! Maybe she could be quick....

Rendaz hesitated after equipping the collar. There was.. something odd about the creature, besides from the fact that it was a half mongoose, half snake abomination. And what was it doing with those clothes? He raised the creature before him, still latching on with a claw.

It was certainly rather heavy, but thankfully, a life of lugging heavy machinery around had left him pretty capable. But he didn't do anything. He merely inspected the odd creature, tracing a claw along where the two different species were attached. No stitches, and no evidence to show that the two halves had been surgically attached. Was it born like this? Crafting eldritch abominations had been a thought that had occasionally crossed his mind, but it didn't seem like this creature would be any use for that. Shame.

"Stop struggling," he snapped. "You'll only make things difficult." He observed the room quickly - no cage. He should really prepare in advance for these things. Cursing lowly at himself, he set the beast down on the table again. He couldn't itch the feeling that there was just something desperately wrong...

Keeping hold of the leash, he merely stood back a moment and observed the creature. Of course, he couldn't let go. If it was set free, the environment in his room didn't exactly pamper towards animals. He'd had his past experiences...

Chimney for sure wasn't enjoying her day. To be woken to this horror made it a very bad day! When she was lifted she let out a groan of some sorts. What was he doing? as it turned out, something she had been through before. Many scientists were surprised she wasn't one animal with different traits, but to fused together. That's partly why she was a failed experiment.

When he told her to stop moving though, she obeyed not wanting to anger the orange thing. Being back on the table she put her paws over her mussel. This was horrible, how was she going to get out. Idly while she was observed Chimney to a claw and tried scratching into the table, an I. Hopefully she could finish the rest of her words. It was good she knew how to spell a few of them.

Obedience. That always came in handy. Though he was almost amused at the human-like way it placed its paws over its face, like it were trying to hide--

Then it ticked. Of course, the animal seemed as dumb as most animals, but there were qualities obviously not found in the common wild beast. For a start, there was the whole understanding speech, then the clothing - and was that a word that it was trying to scratch into his table?

It had to be a shapeshifter - just a very stupid one. Otherwise, why would it not just transform back?

Person or not, he didn't exactly appreciate the way it tried to claw into the grains of wood. Vandalism, of any form, especially on his own property, was one of his worst peeves. His hand slammed down atop the creature's paw, aiming to stop the motions.

"Are you a student," he demanded, glaring into the creature's eyes. Oh, it would be problematic that he had treated a student this way, but at the very least, it seemed submissive enough not to be a huge worry for him. He would personally make sure of it that no rumours were spread.

Her nails were dull and the I was hard to scratch. She stopped and huffed. When His claw sudden was on top of her paw she hiss. It was quite frustrating. She listened as he spoke and started frantically nodded as her answer. She was a student! She was Chimney!She was a very special girl! After she was done nodding she let our an annoyed call at the claw. She went to bite it lightly with her little sharp teeth.

This Orange thing had to let her go now! He knew she was a student, he had to! She was sure he wouldn't be too mean to her.

Nodding, eh? So it was a student. But why, just why wasn't the creature turning back? Why did it not reveal its true form? Was it a game? Did it enjoy screwing with his mind?

He attempted to feign a sort of understanding grin, that is, untilt he moment it tried to dig its fangs into his fingers. Whipping his hand away from the table, he raised his opposite arm as if he were about to strike the helpless creature... before stopping himself. He gave a deep breath, leaning down closer towards the creature's level.

"Do you intend to play with my mind?" he hissed, voice lowered to a hush. "Make some sort of fool of me? Why won't you show me your true form?"

"Is this a game," he leered. "Do I look like I'm laughing to you." Claws tapped impatiently once again on the table. He didn't once direct his gaze aware from the teacher - not even through a blink.

Her jaw hit the table when he pulled his claw away. Chimney's tail moved closer to her front making her a little more compact. When the Orange Thing got angry and whispered to her she cocked her head. She had no clue what he meant. A game? Were they playing a mind game? Oh that sounded fun! But at "true form" she chirped. Meaning nothing really but noise. The thing wasn't laughing, so why was he asking if he was. Didn't he know he wan't laughing?

Clipping the skirt on her tail she tried moving it up to the top of her tail. He wanted to see her human form? She would need to get dressed!

To say the ruckarl was confused would be a blatant understatement. His reddish, orange eyes squinted at the odd creature... and its clothing. What was it trying to communicate? What was with the odd accessories? If it was sentient, it wasn't showing the characteristics of anyone with common sense, even with the human-like qualities.

It reached the point where he simply did not have the patience to wait and discover. A waste of his time, it seemed. Exhaling deeply, fog heaved from his breath as once again, he latched to take a hold of the creature. This time, he would simply cut off the collar with a quick swipe of his claws.

Then, he would grab the scruff of the creature to haul it off the table. Hmm, it would be tempting indeed to just dispose of it, but if it actually were a student, it would cause a lot more trouble than it was worth. He just wanted this thing out of his sight. Out of his mind. Lugging it towards the door, he used a free arm to swing it open, before dumping it outside.

"If you know what's good for you, you will stay away. Speak nothing of it to no one," he hissed, before slamming the door shut, once and for all. There were a few clicks and whirs behind the door, and shortly thereafter, the noise of construction of his latest project.

Chimney flinched as the Orange thing cut off the collar. She closed her eyes and was a bit scared. What was he doing. He was taking her to the door? Oh she agreed, it was time to go. She had fun playing though! Chimney chirped happily as she was dumped in the hall way. Once the door slammed she rolled to the other side of the hall and stood up on her two legs. In a very fast moment her scales disappeared and she got smaller. Then her human feature grew back as she became larger. Now in her human for she sighed fixing her clothes into the right place.

Walking up to the door she said, "Thank you! I had a fun time! Bye!" Then she skipped down the hall humming.
