The lack of audible pain was disappointing, but Owen wasn't finished yet. There would be more to come, and Owen could be certain of it. He grinned though, as the man collapsed, putting him into an even more vulnerable position. What next? Strangle and throttle him? Nah, he wouldn't be able to scream. Stab him again? Then again, he didn't want him to die too quickly either... Then he looked to his legs.

Why fix what wasn't already broken?

His own pain was dulled out by adrenaline as he thrust his leg repeatedly towards the grounded man. He could do with a few more bruises in his side, right? It'd be so much better if he were actually standing up, but he was too enthralled by Vernal's sheer lameness.

It hurt. It hurt so much.

He kept trying to crawl; the pain to do so kept holding him back. This was even without Owen's continuing barrage-- with it, he could not fathom breathing. He stayed where he was, completely helpless to the attacks. The only thing that kept him awake was Their constant laughter, Their jeers and insults. He heard some helium in there, too, but that wasn't anything he could be insulted by; when someone laughed, Laughter laughed, too. That's just how it worked.

He did not beg. He didn't utter a sound. He would not give what Owen wanted.

Still nothing. So unresponsive. How could he knew if Vernal was even feeling anything if he wasn't doing anything? The thought crossed Owen's mind that he may have actually managed to kill him... Which would be more of an inconvenience than a genuine concern. Man. If only he'd had Rein again, who actually let him beat him to death whenever he felt like it. If the piglet hadn't whined, things would still be the same.

Slowly, he pushed himself to his feet, his torso still burning from the prior shock. He could cope. He scowled down at the body, finally noting the movement and that Vernal was, indeed, still alive. Excellent.

He bent down. "Listen, worm. I'm gonna kick you til you scream. If you do, I'll let you go." His smile was menacing. "Not so hard, is it? One tiny lil' baby scream?" A cackle escaped him, and he swung his leg towards the man's side. It felt so much better when he was standing.

Vernal was barely able to comprehend Owen's sudden demands-- and, when he understood, he knew not to comply. He wouldn't be let go if he spoke. It would start with a squeak, then a moan, then a screech in pain that would only be for pain. No. No, he was not going to comply. The man continued to lie on the ground, continued to remain quiet-- only this time, he was remaining absolutely still, as well. There was no attempt in movement, no mad dash for the door or the like. There was no use in such action. He continued to bleed out, a small puddle forming just outside his midriff. It was warm, almost soothing.

As usual, the kick landed. And, he did nothing, only contort his face in continuing pain.

No screaming? Then there would be no end to the kicking, as per the deal. Owen didn't know why Vernal was resisting. One scream was all he asked for, and he would release him.... if the scream was satisfying enough, of course. But who knows, he might be more generous, if he'd only give him the chance. He tutted aloud, as if he were outright ashamed that he was refusing to cooperate. As if he was the one who was being forced to attack.

He swung his foot again. And again. The second time had less power to it. The third had almost none at all. Owen felt that familiar sensation creeping up again - that bizarre numbness. He wanted to resume beating the snot out of him, but when he thrust his leg, it just sort of swayed in the air, and he ended up stumbling, losing not only his balance, but sense of direction.

Eyes glowed white yet again. All sensation was lost. And with it, a physical change started to occur - his hair grew rapidly until it reached his shoulders, and his entire figure started to thin, tattoos forming on his upper arms. Then the glow vanished.

He blinked... before staring down at the body in front of him. Then he cracked a smile.

"Dude... you're wasted."

He barely registered the pain anymore, his vision becoming more and more a blur . . . He didn't notice when the kicks stopped all together, either. How could he? Vernal could feel himself slipping away into a deep sleep-- or, worse. He strained to retain consciousness, and that's when he heard Owen.

The only reason he noticed the boy's words at all was because it distinctly lacked malice. Amusement was still there, but was more . . . carefree, perhaps? Blameless. The first conclusion to reach Vernal's strained mind was simply that it was someone else-- someone who could help. He inhaled deeply, swallowing a disgusting bloody cough before managing the question that could save him: "Wer?"

"You, man." It was true - they'd come down here for a drink and a smoke in the dead of the night, but Vernal just hadn't slowed down. Now he wasn't getting up at all. He laughed, before crouching down by his side, wobbling slightly in the process. "You're as drunk as... like... hell, or something," he remarked, his voice slurring.

He reached a finger to prod at his shoulder - intended as some sort of encouragement. "C'man... Geddup. You done better than this... on that other time, y'know...?" He gestured, as if another period of time was something that could be gestured to.

He couldn't see the forming puddle of blood, and even if it wasn't dark, he probably wouldn't have noticed it either.

'Drunk'--? That's what he told Them he would be doing, yes, but he hadn't mentioned anything of the sort to Owen. Did Owen even know that he sometimes drank? And, the words afterwards . . . It didn't make sense. It didn't make sense at all, but Owen himself hadn't made sense this past half-hour of dealing with him. He still had to deal with the boy, but it was an almost completely different boy. If this one could be talked with . . .

"Hilf mir . . . aufstehen?" he coughed out, Vernal's vision continuing to blacken and his limbs everything but useful at this point. He couldn't fathom getting up on his own, and the pain was too numbing to consider any fancy alternatives. He needed someone to help him, and here the boy was.

At the request, Owen grinned, finding no reason not to oblige. Vernal's habits did get the best of him sometimes, and although it would be amusing to leave him there, obviously, there would be some sort of revenge due later. He wasn't exactly up to that. They were friends. They were cool.

"'Ere," he said, grappling him by the upper arms in some attempt to haul him up. "You need to lose some weight, man," he grumbled under his breath, straining slightly. He could feel an odd dampness around his hands... Huh, odd. Vernal must've have spilled his drink - the most obvious explanation, anyway.

But that was when he finally saw the thing responsible. His eyes widened, and he ended up dropping Vernal again out of shock. "Dude... Wh...?" He pointed. "What'd you do?"

Somehow, someway, luck had come Vernal's way, and Owen had done a one-eighty on his personality with a lovely dose of amnesia. No one Up There would be thanked, the man simply helping in the effort as much as he could. His body throbbed with the lift; his arms did their best to help secure the haphazard grip. It hurt, but at least he was off the ground--

He let out a silent scream in the drop, his wound rubbing against itself with impact. OW. He nearly blacked out and missed half of Owen's question, but the meaning was clear enough. There began a ringing in his ears, though.

"'Nicht mir," he managed once regaining his ability to breathe. Now that he was down on his knees instead of lying flat, Vernal was finally looking at his wound-- and, though blurry, the forming puddle was clear enough. Time was becoming a pressing issue. "Hilf . . ."

"Whoa whoa whoa...." he muttered to himself, backing off. Okay, that was more than just some drunken voyage. This was the part when the situation actually became something serious, something beyond Owen's own coping ability. He blinked at the wound with disbelief, before throwing his hands in the air and turning around. Done. He wasn't cut out for that. He fumbled around in the dark, until his fingers landed on a wine bottle. He yanked it out, before pulling at the cork.

He looked at Vernal.... Oh yeah, he still existed, didn't he? And he was asking for help too, wasn't he...? He gazed at him cluelessly. "...Yea, yea whatever, in a minute, or something."

He took a swig of his newfound drink, before stumbling towards Vernal again, squinting at the wound... Okay, that was more blood than he thought it was. He wasn't looking so good either. He stuck on his most professional face. What do... "Uhm... Yeah, I think you'd better have some of this--" he said, offering the bottle.

He didn't know why there was such delay. He was hurt-- this Owen was his "friend" of sorts. He needed help, and he . . . was going to drink? Vernal's mouth remained closed as the drink was offered to him in turn. He didn't need it, despite all the pain. Really.

If the boy wasn't going to help . . . Vernal attempted to get up on his own. It was easier with his current position, having been dropped before. His arms were conveniently underneath. Just a slight push-- he immediately felt sick, the pain roaring through his abdomen and rest of his body. No good. The man crashed back down onto the floor, breathing hard and unevenly. His vision was a mixture of greys and black.

He couldn't ask for help again, only able to turn his gaze towards Owen. Was this really so hard? Help him!

Owen's eager look soon dissipated with the refusal of his drink. It was such a generous offer too, how could he refuse it? Just one small drink? It was what they came down to do anyway. With an offended scoff, he took a swig of it himself, gasping and wiping his mouth with the back of his wrist afterwards. Good stuff.

Vernal. Right. Right. He put the bottle down, blinking at his admittedly rather feeble attempts at returning to his feet. He gave a half-laugh of amusement, before remembering that he was indeed meant to help in what was undoubtedly supposed to be a serious situation.

"Hrmhm.. Yeah, lemme try again," he hummed, gripping his upper arm in an attempt to haul him up again. "Use your legs, woman," he grunted, this time, actually holding on securely.

He didn't see Owen drinking, but he did hear the laugh despite his ears ringing. Was there some way of getting a different Owen again--? Someone a bit more focused and could read the mood of a situation? Or, just someone else in general. Someone that would actually help.

Vernal couldn't lift himself up like before; his energy was spent, his mouth tasted too much like blood. His vision was still tainted by monochrome blotches. He appreciated the secure hold this time-- really, he did-- but, he couldn't show it, merely able to grunt a little with the lift and listlessly look towards the door.

Although Owen had politely requested it, Vernal, in fact, wasn't really using his legs at all. Owen groaned in annoyance, but he wasn't about to drop Vernal because of it anyway. He was a self-confessed asshole, but not that much of one. On purpose.

He followed his friend's line of sight towards the door, before frowning. "You're such a cow," he muttered, adjusting his position to be better be able to drag him. Sure, he could carry skinny pixie girls, but this was a little different.

He pulled him across the floor by his arms, careful not to make the journey too fast or rough, before slowly taking him up the stairs, mentally urging him to put a bit if his own effort in.

Cow . . . Ein Kuh? Owen was not one to talk. Besides, he wasn't fat, just not in the best of shape. Yeah.

Vernal couldn't remember what he had expected with Owen's help, originally-- no help at all, probably-- but he didn't think that he was going to be dragged, and neither he nor his wound were particularly fond of it. Not at all. With his head already swimming due to blood loss and on the verge to bleed out completely, he didn't have much choice in transportation. If it weren't for him not being able to move his mouth, he would have complained about it. He remained silent and limp, though, no longer having the energy to even grunt properly in protest.
