Post  Rendaz "Flammy" Sat Apr 16, 2011 4:48 pm

Rendaz cared little whether the others were following him or not. With the exception of Aethera and her carafe of coffee, he wouldn’t have minded if they just turned around and went the other way. He would not have much reason to blame them for doing so anyway.

As he neared the door, it was plain to see that it was different from any other door in the building. Instead of wood, the door seemed to be a thick plate of metal. Several keyholes were positioned randomly across it, as well as wires, locks, buttons, levers, and any sort of guard. He turned to face the others, narrowing his red eyes suspiciously. “No watching,” he hissed, then began to peel away the wallpaper near the corner of the room to reveal a neat row of keys. Selecting the smallest, he inserted it into the rightmost lock. After a few ‘clicks’, he turned the handle, heaving it open with a pained grunt.

He knew that if the wrong key or keyhole was used, the door would automatically jam itself, ensuring no access whatsoever. Only the master key would be able to unlock it, which Rendaz kept in his short’s pocket… which were back at the vestibule. The other wires and buttons on the door were merely distractions for those unfamiliar with its mechanics. Normally, he would take such pre-emptive measures, but in an academy such this, there wasn’t many other ways to ensure the privacy of his room.

As the door opened, the powerful stench of smoke flooded out, to which Rendaz grinned wryly. The room itself seemed to be a minute scrap yard - there hardly seemed to be any room for feet to stand with all the clutter on the floor. Broken glass, razor-edged gadgets and weapons named only a few of the things blanket ting the floor. Crumpled blueprints and half-finished projects lay tossed around in a similar manner. In the centre of his room, his makeshift fan had somehow caught on fire and was now spewing out smoke. “Stupid fan,” he groaned, stepping forward to kick it over. It immediately began buzzing, slowing down until it reached a rather sickening halt, the fire flickering away. Turning to face the others, he scowled slightly. “…Don’t make yourself at home.”

It took a great deal of self-control not to intrude upon Rendaz's personal space and roughly escort him to his quarters himself after the lack of manners he had displayed towards Everly. He almost said something about it. But the Mechanics professor was injured and he couldn't risk trying to manhandle him. Fair enough, if Od was to play doctor, it would be Rendaz's own fault if he forgot to be gentle.

Steadying his gaze on the other professor, he followed him to his quarters, watching the unlocking of the door with mild interest. 'Paranoia' was the first though that came to mind, and when the door eased open to reveal what was inside, the second thought was '...you've got to be kidding me'. He stepped mindfully into the room, glancing around distastefully as if the clutter would try and attack. It was a shame what a man like this could do to such an old and once elegant room. His heart went out to Everly, feeling pity for what her kindness in opening her doors had allowed in.

He shook his head to rid himself of negative thoughts. Right now, he had only to focus on getting this rude and obnoxious professor a clean bill of health.

"Do I dare ask... where you sleep?"

When the door opened, Everly couldn't help but let out a loud, pained gasp. She braced herself in the doorframe, pressing her soft palms firmly against the wood. Her eyebrows hovered far above her wide eyes, wrinkling her forehead. Her chest rose and fell steadily. She tried to remember the room as it had been before, but couldn't quite get her mind past the current sight.

Everly's mind had blanked. The only thing she knew at this moment was that there was nothing that could get her to enter that room. Od and Aethera would have to tend to this injured patient without her help.

Aethera kept herself outside arms' reach with the carafe, but Rendaz's room stumped her. With all the mess on the floor, she was hardly going to be able to enter barefoot. She opened her mouth to ask what she should do, then closed it, seeing Everly's response. "Excuse me please, headmistress. Let me deal with him," she murmured, keeping the words between the ladies. "I did well enough during the afternoon." Squaring her jaw, she used one foot to lightly brush aside the crap in her way, then take a step when she was fairly certain she could. And another.

Post  Rendaz "Flammy" Sun Apr 17, 2011 11:08 am

Rendaz frowned at how his accomplices appeared to act: far from satisfactory. He couldn't understand their problem, hadn't they every seen a bit of litter before? Of course, somebody always had to take offence to everything he did. Rolling his eyes at Everly's reaction, he hobbled towards the opposite door. "I don't sleep in here... if that's what you imply," he hissed at Od, without turning to face him. He kicked open the door - the handle had broken a while ago, there was no need to turn it now.

The room revealed was a lot less dangerous than the one they currently stood in, but no less messy. For a start, there was the distinct lack of machinery. Instead, papers, piles and piles of papers, all with sketchy plans of gadgets and devices. Although unorganized, it didn't seem to be as awful as the other room. A desk was at one side of the room, where an array of coffee mugs, pencils and half finished plans were displayed. As he eyed this desk, Rendaz quickly strode towards it to snatch one of the plans away and crumple it, eyeing the others suspicious. "...Here's room. For coffee," he muttered.

As he neared the bed, there didn't seem to be anything spectacular about it, aside from a strange looking digital clock by the bedside. Sighing slightly, he lifted his leg onto the bed, and then the other, then shuffled down to a comfier position with his head against the bedpost. The pain was constant, but thankfully, it was also consistant, aside from any sudden movements. Groaning, he turned his head halfheartedly to face Od. "...Just get it done and over with."

Od felt Everly's pain when she gasped, but he kept on an indifferently serious face that did little to hide his displeasure. He reluctantly left the Headmistress to follow Rendaz into the adjoining room. The newly revealed room was better by far, but Od would have still considered it cluttered, what with all the loose papers. He tried to ignore it though, as he made his way to the bed the other professor was making himself comfortable on. He set his small black bag on the edge of the mattress and unzipped it. The lids of many vials were visible when he pulled the top open, all packed impeccably neat, each one displaying a small white label with their name scrawled elegantly in traditional Mongolian script. The dean paused just before plucking out one of the glass containers and glanced at his less-than-willing patient while he considered his options. Coming to a decision with a shrewd glint in his eye, he forwent the bag for now and turned his attention to Rendaz's torso.

"I agree, professor," he commented dryly in response to Rendaz's wish to get this over with.

Managing to appear only slightly reluctant, he extended one arm and prodded Rendaz's ribcage gingerly with his fingertips. He didn't feel any give and proceeded to press with a touch more pressure.

Aethera approached the desk with an easier step (less potentially hazardous items strewn across this floor, it seemed), then poured a second mug of coffee and stood ready, expecting a hiss of displeasure from the patient and a need for caffeinated pain relief. Now that the other professor that Everly had called 'Od' was inspecting Rendaz, she had a moment to do the same, if from further off. She had no idea what species he was, but he reminded her of a salamander... the elemental kind. She'd pretended she hadn't seen it playing in the forest fire, but deep down she knew she'd seen the elemental creature, not imagined it. The mechanics professor had similar coloring, though she'd mostly assumed the fire lizard she'd seen was orange... it was rather hard to look at in the heart of the fire.

The similarity made her wonder at his insistence on the hot beverage. Did he actually have an affinity for fire, or was she just imagining connections where there were none? If that were the case, he'd definitely need the room warm to heal... maybe she could make herself useful and light the fire. She set the full coffee mug on the desk next to the carafe and moved to the fireplace, which luckily had half-charred wood in it still, or she would have been stuck. She'd ask where there might be more firewood and go get more, but at least she could light this first. With a glance over her shoulder, she tried to reach for the feeling of fire within herself, but after a moment's contemplation, she had felt nothing like the rush she remembered. So instead she pulled aside the screen and knelt, reaching for the nearby tin containing matches. She used the smaller wood laid out at the side of the fireplace to create a place the fire might actually take hold. She would've used paper, but all the paper nearby seemed to have scribbles on it and she'd hate to burn up something important.

Rendaz peered slightly curiously as Od searched his bag for something of use. He raised his brow, snorting in a sort of 'get on with it' manner, but remained silent. He briefly noticed Aethera in the background, pouring more of that coffee; a drink which he now held more precious than ever before. He outstretched his arm, and forced a painful grin. "Giiiive..." he uttered. "You said... there would be more in my room." His gaze darkened. "Give it."

He was momentarily distracted by Od reaching his arm over towards his chest. "What are you..." As his fingertips brushed the surface of his chest, he realised that he may as well have been holding a knife instead. Biting back a cry, he cringed back in pain. Daring to peep one eye open, he saw Od was leaning for another touch. He clenched his claws, and as the now familiar feeling of agony exploded inside him, he could bottle his rage no longer. "Get offa me!" he snarled, flailing his arm in the general direction of the stand-in doctor. He wasn't about to allow anyone else to feel his ribcage, especially this hopeless professor. And damn it, he wanted his coffee.

Od pulled back quickly when Rendaz started flailing and his lips pulled into a satisfied little smirk. He hummed and returned his attention to his bag, quickly locating--thanks to how impeccably organized the thing was--a smaller vial with a milky liquid inside. His other hand retrieved an injection needle, which was poked through the cork of the vial and tipped up-side-down to fill.

"Not to worry, your ribs do not appear to be broken. That is not to say that they aren't cracked, they just haven't split. Which is very fortunate for you seeing as you have managed to avoid surgery. But I'm afraid all that can be done is to kill the pain and try not to move around too much until you're healed. We will prepare meals for you that should aid in this." The dean removed the needle from the cork and gave it a small squirt to blow the air out. "I doubt with the amount of pain you're currently in that you'll feel this little prick at all." His smirk had fallen into a much more professional indifference.

Leaning back over the other professor, Od very swiftly directed the needle towards his patient's hand with an assured demeanor that suggested he'd done this many times before. In an instant, it was in, the opaque liquid was injected into a dorsal vein on the back of the hand, and the needle was removed. Od straightened again, pulled a small white cloth from the bag, and wrapped up the needle to dispose of later.

"Give it thirty seconds." He directly curtly. "Your pain will dissipate almost entirely." He swirled the little vial fondly in his fingers. "Tsagaan du su. It's actually a concentrated neurotoxic poison, which is why it makes such a fantastic pain killer." He shrugged as he tucked the vial safely back in his bag, adding nonchalantly, "With the deadly bit extracted, naturally."

Then his brows rose and he began again, sounding as if he'd mockingly forgotten something. "Oh yes! You may also experience a numbness in your extremities. I don't recommend trying to walk until the effects have worn off." The smirk returned.

Aethera listened to the stand-in doctor discussing the neurotoxin, which made her stiffen until he mentioned the extraction. The doctor's attitude was hardly professional, keeping information from the patient until after the treatment had been administered... but considering the patient's attitude, Aethera couldn't exactly complain. She doubted that Rendaz would've accepted treatment had he been given the choice. She'd met worse patients, but not many of them.

"Excuse me, where might I find more firewood? I'd like to keep the room nice and warm for him," she offered tentatively, going over to where she'd set the mug down and picking it up, but she didn't hand it to Rendaz, worried he might have problems holding the cup if he started having "numbness in his extremities". She could hold it for him, but she wasn't sure he'd go for that either.

Post  Rendaz "Flammy" Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:43 pm

Calming down a little, Rendaz stared dumbly at Od, most of what he was saying sailing directly over his head. He still couldn't stand his pretentious tone, his know-it-all attitude. He was too busy mustering his hate to realise that he'd managed to stick a needle in his arm. He hadn't felt it at all, and had reacted too slowly to pulling his arm away. "Wha'd you do?!" he hissed, inspecting where the needle had penetrated his hand. A strange feeling shot up his arm, a feeling he could not describe. It wasn't soothing, but it wasn't painful either. His injected hand felt odd, and he momentarily clenched it to make sure it was still there. "Huuh..?"

The throbbing in his chest dulled considerably, and he paused to take a breath, slightly relieved that it didn't strain his chest as much as before. There was still a twinge, but it was no where near intense. For a moment, he smiled, the fainted hint of gratitude in his expression. It faded away quickly at Aethera's voice, and he rolled his eyes. "That room. Take whatever," he waved his hand dismissively towards the other room. Despite the mess, there was a hefty supply of scrap material, including wood. He'd always knew it would come in handy.

It was then he noticed the mug in his hands. He grinned, a wide toothy grin, He could hardly concentrate on Od's words at this point, why would he care? He was cured now, he didn't need his help. Lifting his legs off the ground, he went to place his feet on the floor... Only to find that they were missing. "Where's..." he muttered, obviously baffled. He peered down at his feet, noting that they were indeed there. So why couldn't he feel them?

Disregarding this, he tried to stand up anyway. He wobbled, waving his arms for balance, before sitting down again. "Pass the coffee," he whined, becoming increasingly impatient. Why had they tried to seperate him from a nice drink? Obviously, it was a conspiracy plotted against him. He wasn't about to tolerate any of it. He forced himself onto his feet again, staggered around two inches towards her before his feet failed him yet again. "Damn it!" he yelled, landing to the floor. The underlying papers may have cushions his fall slightly, but nothing could impede his quickly collapsing dignity.

Od noticed Aethera's hesitation to hand over the mug, and he nodded assuringly, using a much kinder tone with the student. "If it has a lid and a straw he should be able to hold it just fine."

When he turned his gaze back on the professor, the warmness in his expression immediately dissipated again and he looked entirely unamused. He winced mildly as he watched him hit the floor, unwilling to step in and try to catch him because frankly, he suspected he would get swatted for it.

"Would you like a hand, professor?" His gaze softened just slightly, and his tone mellowed with some sympathy. "I did try to warn you..." He took a step closer and lowered a hand, understanding that the proud mechanics professor's dignity might be bruised as well as his torso, and he might rather just accept aid without having to voice it was necessary.

"Even though you can't feel the pain any longer, you must remember that your ribs are still at least cracked. If you go trolloping about, you're likely to injure them further." Pain killers were dangerous for this reason, because the pain warned you not to move about.

Mug in hand, Aethera had leapt forward in an attempt to keep Rendaz from hitting the floor, but she was far too late, watching as the professor flailed about and landed in a heap. "I'm not sure where I would find a lid for a coffee mug," she murmured to Odqura. "I'll help him if he'll let me." She didn't exactly whisper, but her words were definitely more for the dean than the invalid.

"Professor Rendaz, would you mind if I helped you for a bit? It's my fault you're injured, so it's only proper for me to try and repay my debt by helping you." She's had experience kow-towing to authority figures in the past, so she knew how to put on a good show of mindful obedience. "Please, sir." Taller than him she may be, standing above him with the desired beverage too, but if she could shrink to suit her attitude she'd be all of three inches tall. To show her commitment she drops to her knees next to the fallen ruckarl and offered the mug so he could drink without touching it if need be.

Despite having his face planted in the sheets, his injuries hardly reacted: there was an ache, but no more than that. Aethera was kneeling by his side with the mug. Taunting him, perhaps? However, her pleas seemed genuine, if not a little forced. Besides, a slave at the ready did indeed seem a prize; and she hardly complained about it too. But he wasn't disabled, and he didn't need her help. "Do whatever," he groaned, fully prepared to become the laughing stock of the academy.

Chuckling bitterly, he looked up briefly to see Od offering a hand. For an instant, he almost accepted it, then realised he was only doing it out of pity. He hesitated - had this professor not mocked him only a few minutes ago? He frowned. Who am I kidding? His expression souring, he took the hand and began to pull himself up. He wobbled slightly, trying to grab further up Od's arm with his other hand until he was on two slightly unsteady feet. "I ain't stayin' in bed all day," he muttered, leaning heavily against the history professor. He wasn't about to agree to his incapability; what use would he be to the academy if he couldn't move?

He looked towards Aethera again, outstretching another hand. "If you wanna help me so badly, just pass the coffee," he sighed. He wasn't confident in his hands ability to hold the mug steadily, but frankly, he didn't care. He'd waited long enough.

Od was silently relieved that Rendaz had taken his offered hand. If he hadn't, the dean couldn't very well have left him on the floor, and forcing him to his feet would have been significantly more troublesome. As Rendaz pulled himself up, Od's free hand came to support the mechanic professor's opposite elbow, to try and help steady him as best he could. He had panned on trying to maneuver his colleague back towards the bed, but paused with a small frown at Rendaz's declaration.

"If you will not stay in bed, where will you stay? You have to be somewhere comfortable and to not move around." He reiterated the importance of keeping still. "If you prefer the ability to walk, I can administer an antidote to the pain killer." He didn't think it was a choice Rendaz would take, but felt inclined to offer it anyway.

Everly flinched as she heard the sounds of someone falling in the next room. She leaned her head into the study, trying to get a peek into the bedroom, but it was no use. Looking down at the mess on the floor, Everly felt a familiar sickness in her stomach. She knew that it would be best if she could get over this silly fear and go help the others, but the longer she stared at the floor, the less she felt like she could physically enter.

Eventually, she convinced herself that Odqura could handle this one without her. Yes, she thought to herself. He will do just fine.

Everly stayed for a few more moments, straining her ears to try and hear if everything was okay. When she didn't hear anymore sounds of crashing, she took a deep breath and removed her hands from the door frame. There were imprints in her palm where the wood had pushed into her skin. She rubbed her palms together, trying to smooth out the marks.

She listened one more time, then turned around and walked away from the scene, feeling more able to breathe the further away she got. This battle would have to be fought another time.

Aethera promptly set the mug of coffee in Rendaz's hand, but she didn't draw away immediately. She wasn't sure if the ruckarl's hand had enough strength (or awake nerve-endings) to grasp the handle of the mug, or even the hot cup as a whole. Her fingers move to the bottom of the cup, seeming not to notice the heat conducted into her fingers, but her thumb sets lightly over Rendaz's fingers to hold the mug in place. She had considered wrapping his fingers around the mug herself, but since he didn't seem eager to have help, she figured leaving it at supporting the cup would have to do.

Odqura's choice was not one she would have offered, but she saw the logic in giving the professor his options. "If there's a comfortable chair or couch in the room you like most to work in, I can ferry materials and more coffee," she inserted in hopes of tempting him, "To you."

As the mug was placed in his shuddering hands, Rendaz tried to tighten his grasp on it. He couldn't feel the mug at all, nor Aethera's fingers; only a slight warm feeling. His brow creased with concentration, trying to hold the mug as tightly as he could. He pulled the mug away from Aethera's hands, determined to prove that he could manage himself without aid. Raising the mug to his jaws, he shut his eyes tightly, hoping for the best.

The fluid was poured into his mouth, and he gave a slight grin of relief. However, he soon noticing that the mug had emptied a little too soon to his liking, and he looked down, suddenly realising why. Half of the hot liquid was currently travelling down his chin onto his chest; a sensation that should've been relaxing, but only frustrated him further. A low growl emitted from his throat, and the mug slid from his grasp to the floor, only somewhat intentionally. "Useless," he muttered to himself, staring angrily at his hands.

With the aid of Od, he moved over towards the bed, sitting on the edge slowly. For the first time that day, he seemed to be seriously considering their options. He narrowed his eyes suspiciously at Od. "How long does this..." He motioned to his hands. "...Ailment... last?" He didn't like the idea of being completely disabled, even if the painkiller did help to dull the pain. Being spoonfed wasn't an idea that appealed to him at all. On top of that, he couldn't construct any mechanics, not when there was always the risk of chopping his own fingers off without realising. "I can't... do... anything!" he seethed.

When Rendaz had been deposited back on the edge of the mattress, Odqura lessened his hold on the mechanics professor, but remained close in case he decided to try moving about again. He followed Rendaz's gaze towards his hands.

"That depends entirely on your system. Typically, it won't last for more than one to three hours before re-administration is required... I did not give you a lot." He stood straight again and absently brushed invisible dust from his shirt. "I can give you less next time. Perhaps the pain will not be so great then."

The dean hummed thoughtfully as he peered again into his little bag of goodies, eventually plucking out another wider bottle and popping out the cork. Inside this bottle was a very light milky-olive green cream that smelled strongly like the spring. Od dipped two fingers into the cream ad leaned down to dab some over Rendaz's ribcage. He figured it was a good time to apply something to help prevent severe bruising before the pressure of his fingers would cause Rendaz great pain again.

Mind your step! Empty Re: Mind your step!

Aethera watched, forcing herself to stay still and not interfere, as Rendaz dumped half the contents of the mug down his front. She waited until the mug hit the floor to bend and pick it up, hoping to leave the room at least as clean as she'd found it, thought hopefully more so. The girl turned and set the mug next to the carafe, letting it be at that, since the ruckarl seemed like he'd calmed down enough and did not need immediate comfort-coffee anymore.

With the blue-haired unknown man tended to the mechanics professor, she watched closely, curious at this doctor's choice of treatments... she could always learn something new. Though she didn't know what the man was applying directly to Rendaz's ribs, she would've used something topical also, so ingredients could be discussed in a more academic setting later on. It did sound like he wasn't planning to do more than the topical and the narcotic, so she quietly moved to his side at the bed, not interrupting, just re-joining the conversation. "Excuse me, um... sir," she directed at Odqura. "Do you have any stores of herbs? White willow or feverfew in particular? While I don't know exactly how the professor's system works, either herb might offer a mild painkiller that would leave him in pain, but his hands would be functional." She glanced past Od at Rendaz. "If you wanted the option, Professor Rendaz. A supportive bandage around your ribs might help you at least sit up in a chair so you could..." She glanced around the room at the papers, not sure what verb best suited the situation. Not coming up with anything more specific, Aethera went with the general option. "...work."

Rendaz wasn't comfortable with the history professor so close to him, expressing this with a sour look on his face. In hindsight, three hours didn't seem long, but the mechanics professor wasn't so keen on wasting any sort of time - those three hours could've been spent doing something productive. He couldn't stand that awful feeling of idleness. Even as Od explained the medicine, he didn't seem to have a choice in the matter as he quickly applied more gunk to his chest. Frowning at his intruding hand, he snorted. "What's this do then?" he groaned. "Make me grow another limb or somethin'?"

Chuckling bitterly, he turned his attention to Aethera, who was yet again trying to bring up another offer. His brow creased at the word 'bandage', but it was a tempting offer nonetheless to be able to work again. But he was well aware that a bandage was a mark of weakness among humans. "I don't need help sitting up," he finally spat. "I'm sittin' up fine right now."

Straightening his back, Od glanced down at the girl as she approached with her suggestions. He smiled and his gaze softened a little.

"You know your herbs, I am impressed." He drew in a breath and turned his head to glance again at Rendaz. "Yes, lesser pain relievers are allways an option, but with the way he was carrying on, I wouldn't assume he's ready for much weaker remedies just yet. What do you think Miss Vervaine?" His tone was only slightly mocking towards the wounded professor and suggested that he believed the him to have been wailing like a child. "Perhaps soon, though."

He paused patiently while Rendaz inquired about the purpose of the ointment Od had just applied. "Mmm another limb, yes, wouldn't that be handy.." His tone was unimpressed with Rendaz's sarcasm. "This is in fact an ointment of arnica and pineapple to help with the bruising."

He returned to cork to the bottle, and the bottle to his bag. His orange eyes found the student again, and after a brief pause, he addressed her as he might a colleague. She seemed savvy enough in the subject to accept his professional opinion. One arm drapped over his own ribs and the other hand rose to tap lightly on his chin. "No, I never approve of wrapping injured ribs. Your logic is sound theoretically, but since the ribs are merely cracked, the pressure of a supportive brace risks forcing any hairline into a compound fracture." He paused to frown distastefully. "I really don't want to have to perform any surguries today.. And I'm sure Mr. Rendaz doesn't either. No!" He stood straight and gleamed with mock-cheerfulness down at his patient. "Ribs are tricky business I'm afraid, but our patient is correct; he doesn't require help, at least from a bandage. So long as we can help him manage the pain and reduce movement, he'll heal soon enough on his own."

The dean's tail flicked restlessly behind him in a repetitive and fluid motion with he seemed to return to thinking to himself while staring idly at Rendaz's ribs, filing through his memorized volumes and making sure there really wasn't anything more to be done immediately.

"I shall make you tea." He decided suddenly, and briskly turned towards the door. A scorching hot herbal tea should prove soothing.

"And when the narcotic wears off?" Aethera fired right back at Rendaz before biting her lip and looking down. She'd already bossed around one person she shouldn't have this afternoon, she hardly needed to add to her list of crimes. Though the mechanics professor did clearly need a firm hand. She needed to learn to shut her mouth when she shouldn't be ordering around her betters.

She could smile at Od, though, that was certainly polite. And deflecting compliments was her trademark. "Spent eighteen years with a small-town midwife." Impressive? Her? No. As for Rendaz... she raised her eyebrows. "I don't know, exactly. He saved me, yanked me further up the beach, and then made it all the way back here. Quite frankly I've no idea what his body is capable of."

With the doctor's abrupt abrupt departure, she just just stood there lamely, not really sure if she was wanted where she was, nor needed anywhere else.

Still sitting at the edge of the bed, Rendaz twitched with frustration at Od's words. One could notice a trickle of smoke from the edge of his mouth, although he said nothing. The urge to dismantle the history professor right there and then rose within him, and he would've immediately done so if it weren't for his inability to move. The smoke dissipated upon Aethera's clarification, although he couldn't quite remember the situation she was describing. He could hardly remember pulling her, never mind saving her. In fact, he hadn't realised that he was in any pain at all. It was only when his senses were recovering that he noticed it.

Turning a nose up at Aethera, he eyed her suspiciously. "I've had worse," he hissed, despite not having another experience any worse than a few chopped fingers, and even they grew back shortly. "I can deal with this...easy."

Red eyes narrowing slightly, he looked to Od again as he began to leave the room. Tea? Had he not requested coffee for the past fifteen minutes or so? A hot drink was a hot drink though, and he let him off with a small snort. Returning his gaze to Aethera, he noticed her standing around doing noticeably nothing. “Well?” he snapped. “You waitin’ for something?” After saying this, he shuffled backwards to sit on the pillow, his back leaning on the bedpost. His arms were folded disapprovingly as he awaited an answer.

It didn't take long for Od to return since right away he know what sort of tea he wanted to prepare. His arrival was announced by the muffled tapping of flip-flops and his pair of large toe-talons clicking quietly against the floor. He made his way--quite carefully--back to Rendaz's beside, skillfully balancing three full and steaming mugs precariously between his fingers. Finding a clear enough surface near the bed--a bedside table?--he slid the mugs there so that they could be separated and handing out accordingly.

The largest of the mugs was actually not a mug at all, but a very deep red gourd with a silver straw. He chose it not only for the size, but the ballish shape should make it easier for Rendaz to grip and hopefully not spill. "Here, hold it with your palms, it might be easier." The dean lowered the mug to his patient. The steam was invasive--he'd made it as hot as he could, bearing in mind Rendaz's preference. Despite their mutual dislike, he still had a personal standard to live up to.

"This tea is called a maté," he explained. "It contains more caffeine than anyone should require, and I've added some special ingredients that should give it a little kick for you." The scent of the liquid certainly promised a kick. The steam carried the sweetness of strawberries paired with a vague nuttiness and bitter cacao. A special ingredient not traditionally found in this drink, that Od had included on a whim, was chili peppers. He thought the concoction was brilliant, and honestly hopped Rendaz would as well. "The straw is purely to uphold integrity. It's supposed to be drank through a silver straw, traditionally." He felt the need to include that information so that hopefully the injured professor wouldn't discern the straw as an assumption of weakness or inability.

The dean retrieved a second mug--modestly elegant ivory china--and offered it to Aethera. It smelled sweet and chocolaty. "Forgive me, I have no idea what you prefer, but I made you a bit of hot chocolate anyway." He smirked and lifted his own matching cup with the same beverage, sense of smell enjoying a hint of Irish cream mingled in with the chocolate. "A personal favorite." The plumed end of his tail flicked joyfully.

Of course he couldn't return with a drink for Rendaz, and nothing for anyone else. That's just not done.
