"Well, aren't you lucky," he snorted, a jealous tone clear in his voice. "Kids here won't gimme a break. Fix a broken door here, repair some walls there... Bah!" He kicked his toolbox angrily, tipping a few tools and nails from it. "Even broken bones don't let you off for nuffin'..." he mumbled under his breath, hardly caring whether his accomplice heard him or not. Pausing, his twisted his head to stare at Hryshen as she asked her question. "Didn't you say were goin' to our little beach? We don't need a swimmin' pool."

The arrival of the dean was sudden but it wasn't exactly a stealthy one, with the very quiet echo of his pair of talons tapping against the floor with each step. He approached from behind Rendaz, his feathery tail performing its signature sashay behind him, and didn't pause in his walk until he was directly at the mechanic professor's elbow. Before even offering a greeting, one hand snaked forwards to press gingerly at Rendaz's ribcage, the other hand occupied with being curled around a familiar burgundy colored gourd with a silver straw.

"Guardian," he purred teasingly, the sugary tone he used lucidly false. "I wasn't expecting to run into you here." The presence of the gourd exposed the blatant lie, but Od knew this. He refrained from offering it, however.

He turned his head to look forwards towards the other presence, and nodded in greeting. "Professor Hryshen I presume?" They hadn't met, but being privy to the Academy's official documents made guessing her identity easy enough.

Hryshen pouted in sympathy, "Well, I won't ask you to do anything you don't want to do for me." She blinked then blushed slightly, "Oh....Oh yeah...I completely forgot. Though it would be nice to have something closer," she looked down and mumbled, "wait...there is the bathtub in my living quarters....have to find some special salts though....will only go to the beach on special occasions."

Hryshen wondered on whether to ask Rendaz if he knew someone who had access to special minerals, especially sea salts, when a rather elegant looking man approached Rendaz from behind. She looked at the man with curious eyes and smiled when he addressed her. "Yes, that's right....though you may call me Hryshen....I'm not much for titles." She gave a small wave, "May I ask who you are?"

Rendaz curled his lips at Hryshen's offer. "I won't be needing your pity," he sneered, frowning. When she mentioned salts, he raised a brow, picturing nothing but food seasoning rather than the minerals she was referring to. He did quite fancy some cooked fish at the moment...

Before he had the chance to question her, he suddenly became aware of Od's rather intrusive fingers, slipping onto his chest. At first, he disregarded it as some sort of cracked up hallucinatin, but the stinging pain caused him to reel backwards, giving the history professor a hard glare. That is, until he noticed the gourd in his grasp. "Hey," he began, his gaze directed only at the tea. "Who- Who'd you make that for?" He pointed at the gourd, grinning hungrily, licking his lips slightly.

Od immediately liked this new professor. Perhaps because of the smile and the small wave, his first impression of her was that she was sweet. He returned a smile and nodded in response to her preference. "Miss Hryshen. I am Odqura, Professor of History. It is a pleasure to meet you. Is the castle treating you well so far?"

Pleasantries aside, the dean's attention was drawn to the mechanics professor as he reeled backwards. Od was unaffected by the glare since from Rendaz, it seemed a thing to be expected. During his brief intrusion, the injured ribs appeared to be doing fine, though, so he just smiled.

"Oh this?" Od glanced at the gourd in his grip and shrugged one shoulder leisurely as if he'd hardly been aware the beverage was even there. "Well isn't that an entertaining story, because I was in my quarters and I decided to mix a mild peach tea for myself while I organized my medicine bag." He figured Rendaz would be entirely uninterested in a story, so he amused himself by telling one in the excitedly hushed manner of a housewife sharing gossip. "And while I was minding the dates on my labels, I found myself wondering after your condition, Professor. And when I went to take a whiff of my tea I was surprised that I had somehow managed to mix a mate instead of a peach. Well, I hadn't even wanted this drink, but I couldn't very well waste it. So I came here for a stroll through the corridors hoping to build up an apatite for it, with no success." He sighed dramatically and gave the silver straw a stir. The aroma of cacao, strawberries and chili peppers wafted up in a cloud of hot steam. Od's head tilted just slightly and he eyed Rendaz slyly from the corner of his eye. "I don't suppose you could tolerate such a heavy flavor on a fair day like this? I would hate to waste a good mate." Od lifted the gourd in offering.

Hryshen nodded, "Very nice to meet you too, Mr. Odqura. It's been pretty nice here, though I need to find some sea salts so I don't have to go down to the beach to often."

Hryshen stared at the two of them talk to each other. They acted almost like a comedic couple and the drink did look kind of good. She perked her ears when Od mentioned that the drink was called Peach Tea. "Tea? I'm still pretty new to that type of beverage. Mr. Blake introduced it to me not that long ago."

Rendaz twitched slightly at hearing Od's dreadfully tiresome story. It seemed to go on and on, it was endless, yet there was no interrupting him. Time seemed to have slowed in those very moments, and when he was finished, the mechanics professor couldn't stop himself from spitting "About time!" Grabbing the gourd, he immediately began to drink from the straw obsessively, caring very little on how others judged him. The deliciousness flooded into his mouth, the steaming hot liquid running comfortably down his throat.

It was then he remembered Hryshen's presence, and he narrowed his gaze at her. "Mr Blake? You mean that guy who goes on and on about pointless things?" He said this while cutting a glance at Od, as if referencing him in some way. "Coffee is way better anyway," he mentioned, despite the fact he held this drink in way higher regard than any coffee. "...And lava too," he grunted, wrapping his arms around the gourd more, feeling its warmth.

"Sea salts?" The dean paused to look thoughtful, then nodded confidently. "I'm sure that could be arranged. We will have you some. Perhaps I could have a supply delivered off to your quarters before long." His gaze traveled sidelong towards Rendaz when he noticed the mechanics Professor silently alluding to him at the mention of 'pointless things'. This amused Od of course, and he smiled. "Coffee is agreeable, certainly, but tea is so versatile." His voice lowered into a teasing manner. "And I've yet to sample lava, myself."

Od hummed amusedly while he eyed Rendaz thoroughly enjoy the beverage, pleased that he'd been able to run into his patient before the drink had gone cold.

"Well," He sighed and tilted his chin up proper. "You seem to remain well, Professor Rendaz, I am pleased to say." He did not address the injury in any more detail, remembering Rendaz's preference. "If you'd feel inclined, return that gourd to my quarters when you've a moment. I would be happy to refill it for you." His fingertip tapped the shell of the gourd as he shifted to turn. "Again, a pleasure to make you acquaintance, Miss Hryshen. I trust you will both be in attendance at the up-coming ball. I'll be escorting the Headmistress, but perhaps you could save me a spin, Guardian. Do you dance?" He smirked teasingly because he knew how little the professor liked him, and didn't wait for a response before he turned ready walk casually back the way he'd arrived.

Hryshen felt releived knowing that she could get sea salts. "Thank you Mr. Odqura. It's very kind of you to help." She smiled and watched him leave then turned to Rendaz. "Coffee? Is that another type of beverage?....And this ball Mr. Odqura mentioned. When is it? It sounds interesting."

'I'm sure that could be arranged.' In other words, Od had no idea where or how to find these sea salts, but would offer her false reassurance anyway. It was a technique Rendaz often used himself. Very effective, if he said so himself.

Needless to say, Rendaz had his doubts of returning to Od's personal quarters. He was certain he'd be roped into more bombast predicaments, against his will of course. Od's 'offer' caused him to pull a rather disgruntled expression, and he didn't even begin to reply as he turned to walk away. "...Are you seeing this? I swear, that fool is hitting on me, I swear it," he seethed under his breath, mostly to himself.

He shot a glance at Hryshen. "The ball is this stupid event where two stupid partners stupidly dance together in some stupid fancy wear. It's just stupid," he snorted, rolling his eyes in contempt.

Hryshen's eye gleamed for a moment. "Dancing? I always did love the pictures of people dancing that occasionally came by with the odd traveller. The women always did look so lovely. And the men were very dashing..." She blinked a moment seeing she had drifted off in a slight daze there and looked over at Rendaz, "I don't suppose you'll be going. You certainly don't sound like you want to go. I bet you would look rather nice in formal."

Hryshen looked in the general direction Od had gone, "I know Mister Odqura will be there, escorting the Headmistress and all.. Have you met her yet? Is she nice? I hope she is, I do like the idea of having a nice boss...I hear more about horrible bosses then of nice."

Rendaz blinked as Hryshen rambled on about... something. He couldn't quite be sure what she was talking about, and might've had some idea if he had been paying the least bit of attention. However, he found the patterns ingrained in the wallpaper for more interesting than her chattering. He'd never noticed them before.

His gaze switched to Hryshen again once she addressed him. "Like hell I'm going," he snapped. "And Miss Everly's a little too dainty for my tastes, y'know? Can't say she likes me at all, heh. She ain't leader material though." Shrugging, he gave a puff of smoke casually, looking around for something.

Hryshen pouted slightly, "You're not? Oh....well I guess you have your reasons... If you do go, I hope I'll see you. I bet you'd look nice in dress clothes." She smiled, hefting her bag to get a better hold of it. "Dainty? Does she like tea parties? Those are rather nice.......on certain occasions... Is it because she's dainty that you don't think she's leadership material?" She paused a moment, "I'm sure there is a good explanation as to why she is the head of the academy. There's always a reason for everything." She nodded, as if reassuring what she had just said to herself.

Rendaz made a face as she mentioned wearing dress clothes, as if she was implying that it would be something that he would do. Although he did recall wearing female clothing before, he did it not for the sake of merely 'looking nice', but to induce underestimation in his foes. After all, women were weak, so it only followed that everyone else would assume him to be weak if he did the same.

"Tea parties? I wouldn't be surprised," he sneered. "Ugh, thing is, she's waaay to soft on people, I mean real soft, like, flowery soft, y'know?" He flexed his claws in front of him, peering at them. "Wouldn't be so bad if we had a little... change, y'know? I think this academy could do with an iron fist ruling." He tossed an expectant glance at Hryshen. "Whaddya think?"

Hryshen laughed softly, "That soft huh? It's nice to have people like that though. Otherswise, the world would deep in endless war." She shifted her weight back to her tail more as a way of sitting than getting dizzy again. As Rendaz flexed his claws, she looked at them as well. They were nice claws, useful looking. She then looked at her own hands. Not very useful really, seemed more weak than his but that was kinda easy to expect.

Hryshen looked up from her hand, "Iron-fist ruling?" She paused amoment, thinking over the idea. "Well, I'm not one to okay violence...but discipline is occasionally welcome. I used to punish the younger fishes when they disobeyed rules made by the adults...I would make small pokets of air for them to sit in for five seconds. Only way to really hurt a fish without killing it. You might think it's weak but that's how I dealt with it."

"Huh." Still smoking casually from his nostrils, the ruckarl gave Hryshen a skeptic glance. Endless war? It sounded more entertaining than peace, it seemed. The place could do with a little excitement. He saw her observing his claws, and he grinned, twisting his wrist to view them at a better angle, mostly for showing off purposes.

He was relieved to know that the sea nymph wasn't a complete softie, in that she'd actually punish those lesser than her. Robbing them from the ability to breathe, even if just for a few seconds, almost impressed him, and he stowed away the idea for possible usage later. Perhaps she wasn't so useless after all, and after a little influence in the right direction, she could probably be made to offer punishments a little more severe than a slap on the wrist. "I didn't think you were that kind of person," he sneered. "If I had my way with punishments, I'd nail one o' their feet to the floor and watch them hop in circles for a few hours." He grinned in amusement at the throught. "'Course, not like Everly would lemme do that..." The name of the headmistress was forced through gritted teeth.

Hryshen blinked. He didn't know she was "that" kind of person? She didn't understand. Did he mean, that he didn't expect her to punish. She guessed that must have been what he was thinking. "Well, I beleive without some punishment, the younger will be ignorant of life. If you think about it, a punishment is like the disappointment of..." She thought a moment, trying to think of something that he'd care about. "..a contraption of yours failing."

Hryshen winced slightly. "That sounds painful...." She then remembered, suffocation can be just as painful. "But, if that is what you prefer, it would be very effective...as long as they don't loose to much blood."

Rendaz couldn't help but guffaw at the mere suggestion of one of his creations actually failing. How naive of her! She obviously had no idea of his capabilities. He knew quite well some of his inventions had failed him before - but only through the misdeeds of others and not himself.

"'Course it's painful," he arrogantly snapped. "If it wasn't, they'd never learn anythin'." Finding his claws now rather dull to look at, he instead fiddled with the edge of his boa. "It only bleeds after ya take the nail out," he offhandedly mentioned, grinning maliciously. Realising he'd just revealed all this to one of his colleagues, who may or may not have agreed with his motives, he opted for a change of conversation. "Why don't we head somewhere else?" he offered, unable to wipe his sneer from his face. "I don't fancy standin' out 'ere where anyone can walk by." Of course, he was referring to Od who had slipped by a while ago to pester him.

Hryshen had known that it'd only bleed once the nail was out but she didn't say anything. She nodded. "I think that would be nice. You didn't seem thrilled when Mister Odqura showed up. Where did you have in mind?" She smiled. There was one thing that did bother her. The fact that he laughed at her example of messing up an experiment. She thought that if such a thing did happen to him, he may not handle it well
