A Morning's Coffee and a Metal Door Empty A Morning's Coffee and a Metal Door

It was a normal for the most part, really boring in fact. As far as Henry was concerned though that was just right and the day was perfect. He had gone out to fly for a bit in the cloudy morning and then after a nice hot shower gone and stuffed his face with bagels while reading a book on Archimedes. After breakfast he grabbed a coffee and went on his way. He was so into the book that he was reading it as he walked and taking an occasional sip from his mug. Yes, today was good.

Of course it could only get better. Henry would have walked straight by the room, not even knowing where he was as he wandered about reading, except for the smell. Breathing in a strong metallic force sharpened his thoughts. He stopped suddenly in his tracks, turned his head then smiled. A metal door. ow wonderful was this? What was behind it, and what would need such a beautiful door to cover it up? He stared at it for a moment taking it the beautiful view.

Coffee, flying, bagels and a metal door. Absolutely perfect.

Things had been uneventful lately. The MOXIs had detected only a few disruptions, which either meant that his schemes were working better than expected, or the MOXIs weren't sensitive enough to their environments. He was forced to assume the latter until further notice.

He was returning to his room to work on exactly that (after downing a few coffees in the meantime) when he saw a figure standing there, staring up at the door. As tall as he was, Rendaz was certain that he was a student. Great, another impediment.

Approaching him slowly from behind, he cleared his throat loudly, squinting up at him with furrowed brows. "Were you seeking my attention, sir?"

As the voice called out Henry turned to face it's owner. He finished a sip of his coffee before answering the dean back. "Oh no. I was just walking by and saw this beautiful door." The Dean didn't look like he was in the best mood, but then again the Deans never seemed to be."If I am in your way I can go." He pointed is book down the hall behind him.

Henry had remembered meeting Rendaz before, but it was brief. He seemed like a guy who didn't like to mess around, and Henry certainly did not want to be punished for loitering. Was admiring a door really loitering though? He lowered his book back to his side taking a small step backwards to suggest he would move if asked.

The Dean taught Mechanics didn't he? Henry hadn't felt the need to take it really, not to mention Jami was probably in his class. It would probably be pretty fun though, making things the hard way again.

Beautiful? Were he a young, modest lady, he might've taken it as a compliment. But Rendaz himself didn't dance around pretty words like that, and the door wasn't made to be eye candy. Mere aimless flattery. He crossed his arms, a half amused sneer on his face.

He was mere moments from telling the kid to beat it, but another detail caught his attention - his face. He'd seen it before. Not in person, but a particular memory spurred into motion again. Numbers flashed before his eyes. A droning, metallic voice. Red. He blinked, readjusting his gaze.

"You," he murmured. He surprised himself. Students often weren't worth remembering, especially ones he'd made little contact with before, but this one stuck out. He plainly shouldn't have. He narrowed his eyes. "No, you're coming with me," he snapped, shifting past him to unlock the door.

Him? Who else was there in the hallway to address. Blinking Henry let out a brief Uhm, and processed what the Dean was commanding him to do. Looking down both ways of the hall, Henry casually finished off his coffee, trying to look calm and normal. Of course he was not though, thoughts racing, unsure of what had him in this situation.

All he wanted to do was look at the door, was that so bad? If Henry hadn't thought he would not be in trouble for it, he would have taken the door with him on his way. It wasn't everyday he could acquire such a stash, but of course he knew better. Yet, after sticking around he had gotten himself into a strange situation. He couldn't be in trouble could he? What had he done? Maybe The Dean needed assistance?

Unlocking the door, he shoved it open, allowing it to make a huge groan in the process, better reflecting his mood than his facial expression ever did. He squinted back at the boy, who did little other than dawdle the doorway. He snorted, turning to face him completely. "You probably think you're in a great load of trouble, don't you? You probably think you've done somethin' to piss me off. Well..."

He didn't even bother to finish that train of thought. Henry could make his own conclusions, he was enough of an adult. He continued into the rather bare and empty room, picking up his stool to move it close to his desk. Both table-top and floor were arranged with various vague mechanical parts, but navigating around them was not difficult. The smell of smoke filled the air.

He looked to him expectantly. "You comin' in?"

"Uhm, did I, Sir?" hopefully he hadn't pissed off Rendaz. No doubt that Henry would lose an argument against authority if he tried to claim innocent. It just seemed like Rendaz would get his way if he wanted Henry to have punishment, whether he deserved it or not. The fairy would assume for now he was indeed in trouble and when he was asked if he was going in he moved quickly not wanting to upset the Dean further.

Looking around the room, Henry's eyes locked on to the desk. All sorts of bits and pieces were around it. Stuff which Henry would love a closer look at. When he inhaled, Henry almost coughed, but stopped himself, thinking it would come off as disrespectful. He took small breaths to get use to it.

As soon as Henry uttered the question, he snapped his gaze at him, leering sharply. "I don't know, did you?" He held the look for a moment more, raising his brow. "If you got something to say, you may as well 'fess up now."

With that, he turned towards a stool, dragging it from beneath the desk with a foot and nudging it towards Henry in silent offering. Quietly, he shifted towards the door, slamming it shut with a heavy 'clunk', moreso to lock others out than to lock the boy in.

"A little bird told me that you have a certain... ability." He waved his hand meaninglessly in the air, before turning to face him fully. With a slight squint, he leaned back against the door, eyes skimming over him up and down.  "Care to demonstrate?"

A Morning's Coffee and a Metal Door Empty Re: A Morning's Coffee and a Metal Door

The boy shook his head, no he had done nothing wrong...recently. Henry unsurely took the offered stool and observed the closing of the door. When Rendaz spoke, Henry instinctively leaned in as if to listen to him better. His lips moved to create a slight smile. Was this all he wanted to see?

"Yeah, sure." Looking around He tried to pick form some scraps on the table, but ended up taking his own bar of copper out of his pocket. If Rendaz didn't want his stuff messed with, using his metal might have been a bad idea. The bar lay flat in his palm. Henry connected with the metal, invisible fingers molding it as if it were liquid. They pressed it into a round smooth disk. Slowly the plate rose and hovered towards Rendaz. The connection kept steady as the metal moved slowly. Henry's reach on the copper would be enough to send it all the way to the Dean.

Rendaz watched the boy carefully as he made his selection. Honestly, if he were to opt for the other scraps in the room, he'd have made no fuss. He would not have allowed him inside in the first place if there were anything of importance out in the open. It was better that he provided his own, it showed resourcefulness... for whatever reason someone might want to carry a bar of copper around.

As he made his demonstration, the ruckarl's brows raised with interest. He'd assumed the control was merely with movement, but this extended to manipulating the formations of its very atoms. He leered at the copper disk, before snatching it straight out of the air. He inspected it on both eyes, before turning his gaze back to Henry.

"...Good, good..." he hummed. His tone was idly conversational. "How much do you know 'bout mechanics, anyway...?"

A Morning's Coffee and a Metal Door Empty Re: A Morning's Coffee and a Metal Door

Post  Henry Quickair Wed Oct 30, 2013 9:47 pm

As Rendaz judged Henry's work, the fairy smiled at the Ruckarl's response. Good, yes it was, very good in fact. Mechanics, now that was something Henry hadn't put much thought to in a while. "A bit. My dad was a metal worker and we worked together to put things together. But we mostly focused on making the parts that fit together. " Basic knowledge like, this screw goes here, that part fits in to that other one. This is how a pulley works.

There was no doubt Rendaz was skilled. Looking around the room Henry spotted things of all sorts he wouldn't even start to understand how they work. Jami had been more in to that side of things, especially if she got to fix something for someone. He could remember so easily times when he sat by a pot of molten metal keeping the current while she sat at the table making some dinky toy that did a trick.

"...If you need me for anything I could read up about it or something." Reading only gets you so far though, experience is key. One can read a recipe to make cake and still ruin it even if they did each step correctly.

He hummed at Henry's description. Well, at least he was familiar with the profession, which is more than he could say for some others. Plus, he was young. Young enough to learn, and old enough to maybe not make a complete wreck of it. "Very well, then." He looked at him through narrowed eyes, before finally standing up and trailing towards the cupboard. After flinging it open, he searched through it for a moment, before hauling out a sizely hunk of metal and cloth.

He dumped it on the table with a loud 'clunk'. MOXI - the original MOXI - its body still lifeless and unmoving. It was without its lower half, and its metallic limbs were splayed out do either side. Its normally blinking red eye was lifeless. The gaping cavity in its chest had long been patched up, and replaced with a flipping lid that allowed one to look inside without tearing it to shreds.

"This might look familiar to you," he huffed, with a leer. "Ever since its main energy resource was removed, I have been unable to restore it to its former glory." He leaned back, folding his arms. "I want to see what you can do."

A Morning's Coffee and a Metal Door Empty Re: A Morning's Coffee and a Metal Door

Post  Henry Quickair Sun Dec 15, 2013 7:41 pm

Henry tried to be patient as Rendaz when to retrieve the pile but his curiosity had him taking a few steps closer to get a good look. At the sight of the collection Henry frowned. Not that damned thing. MOXI, the overly sensitive bully that had roamed...wheeled around the halls. Henry hadn't had too much trouble with it, but he had heard enough complaining from the other students. The complaining was just so annoying.

"Yes, I remember seeing it around, but it certainly looked better than this." Henry leaned in to get a closer look. Well, it seemed to be missing it's bottom half, and it was certainly, broken. Henry wasn't to sure he wanted to try to make it work, he had no clue what made it run and he certainly didn't want to mess up any programming. He could try to add on though.

He placed his hand on the body and felt for it's volume. It wouldn't be too bad. "Would this be useful?" Almost as if he was pulling a sheet off of MOXI a layer seemed to ripped downwards and start to form a new base. The upper half would be lighter now and there would be a new stand for a single wheel or tire to be inserted.

A Morning's Coffee and a Metal Door Empty Re: A Morning's Coffee and a Metal Door

Post  Rendaz "Flammy" Tue Jan 07, 2014 6:53 pm

He squinted carefully as Henry made his small demonstration. He found himself far more fascinated by the action itself, rather than the results of the action. Drawing his finger across where he'd altered it, he hummed, his expression neutral. "Well, you didn't completely ruin it." The kindest verdict he intended on giving.

He felt the robot's casing as if testing to see how thin it was now. He knew that the thing had broken from being impaled, or at least that's what the scars had indicated. They would need more reinforcement. There was a subtle green glow from his veins as he focused. MOXI's metallic fingers twitched slightly, and there was a whirring noise from within, but the eye did not light up nor did it stay that way after he pulled away.

He hummed, before reaching for the edge. After undoing a few screws, he peeled the main body open to squint at the interior. It was a mess - the wires, the motherboard, the disks were all either ravaged or melted. There were some objects that appeared to be brand new and added after the fact - a power supply, and a fan. True, he could replace the lot himself, but Henry had the power to restore it, then....

He pushed the empty robot towards Henry. "Do you think you're capable of restoring that to normal?" he said, giving him a dull stare.

A Morning's Coffee and a Metal Door Empty Re: A Morning's Coffee and a Metal Door

Post  Henry Quickair Wed Jan 22, 2014 2:15 pm

Henry exhaled in slight relief as it didn't seem he had done anything horribly wrong to the robot. The fairy tried to stay composed as the robot twitched slightly as Rendaz seemed to glow. What magic did the big lizard have? Henry had certainly never seen him perform anything before.

He leaned in to get a look at the mess that was inside of MOXI, and it surely was a mess. Restoring? "Uhm, I can probably get each of the parts to be in a slightly better condition, but if you want me to put it all back together, well, that might be a bit more difficult to do correctly. "  He would need blueprints and such, there would be no way Henry could remember where each part went if he made them all nice and new. "I'd have to restore each part separately from how they are now, or some of the parts might fuse by accident."

Placing a hand on to the robot he tilted it to get a better look inside, this was a challenge.
